Description
Our goal as an institution was to improve the international student experience, their academic engagement and outcomes. It was hoped that students would engage with academic and support services that they may otherwise not have identified with.
We set ourselves the challenge of creating a structured learning environment to develop an online open community, which would enhance the offline reality.
A learning journey was created that was heavily populated with videos, quizzes and discussion boards. It was these tools that allowed existing students to become the co-creators and develop the building blocks of an environment that gave the participants the freedom to learn from one another, at their own pace and in their own style. Essentially, we provided international students with the platform to become a community a practice.
This lightening talk will present our model and methodology; discuss our evaluation and findings from user feedback from the first cycle and propose our plans for a second cycle of the OOC.
